David Emelity, MD

Deputy Chief of Staff, Southern Arizona VA Health Care System

Dr. Emelity is the Deputy Chief of Staff at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System and Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Arizona College of Medicine.

He obtained his MD degree from the Oregon Health Sciences University in 1982 and completed his residency training in Psychiatry at the University of California San Diego in 1985. He went on to complete a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at UCSD in 1987. He is board certified in both Adult and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Dr. Emelity's professional career includes 10 years as an Assistant Clinical Professor in Psychiatry at UCSD while in private practice. He joined the VA in 1997 as Chief, Behavioral Health at the Spokane VAMC. In 2001, Dr. Emelity transferred to Tucson to become the Chief of the Mental Health Care Line at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System. He served in this capacity until 2012, when he was appointed acting Deputy Chief of Staff. In 2013, he was officially appointed as Deputy Chief of Staff for SAVAHCS.
