Dr. David Emelity Named Deputy Chief of Staff for Southern Arizona VA

September 26, 2013 - The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) Leadership Team has announced David Emelity, MD, as Deputy Chief of Staff. Dr. Emelity is an active and highly valued faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at University of Arizona College of Medicine. He has published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry and is a regular peer reviewer for this journal. He is currently a co-investigator in a VA collaborative study, "Augmentation and Switching Treatments for Improving Depression Outcomes." His research interests include the study of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and he has participated in research on deep brain stimulation therapy for obsessive compulsive disorder. 

Dr. Emelity began his career at the VA Medical Center in Spokane, WA, and came to SAVAHCS i 2001. He was Chief of Mental Health until 2012, when he was appointed acting Deputy Chief of Staff. He also provides leadership for the Mental Health Care Line, Care Coordination, Telehealth, and Education Training and Development.
