Dr. Gustavo Perez received his doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Texas in Austin in 2007. For his dissertation he completed a one year ethnographic study of resiliency among adolescents working in the streets of Mexico City for which he received the Dorothy Frutcher Excellence Dissertation Award. He has been a licensed psychologist in Arizona since 2008. Prior to joining the Psychiatry Department at the University of Arizona, Dr. Perez was the owner of Integra Psychological Services a private practice focused in trauma recovery for people with PTSD and complicated grief. From 2012 to 2017 Dr. Perez was the clinical psychologist at the Pima County Juvenile Detention Center where he provided clinical and consulting services and worked in state initiatives to develop alternatives to incarceration for adolescents in Arizona. In 2017 he was recognized by his peers with the PCJCC Employee of the Year Award. Dr. Gustavo Perez joined the faculty of the college of medicine psychiatry department in July 2017. He is a clinician and a supervisor at the Early Psychosis Intervention Center (EPICenter) and the Whole Health Clinic, an integrated medicine community program.Dr. Perez serves in the Sexual Misconduct Review Board for the Catholic Dioceses of Tucson. He is raising three mariachis who also play soccer, which he describes as a challenge no graduate degree can ever prepare you for.
