Johnny Vanuk
Johnny graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2011 and is currently studying Clinical Psychology. He has research experience as a faculty research associate with the Speech and Hearing Sciences Department and Family and Human Develop Department at ASU. He has most recently been working with Dr. Killgore as a research technician and Dr. John Allen as a research associate for the Psychology Department. He was also an auxiliary research specialist to the Psychiatry Department for Dr. Charles Raison, Dr. Richard Lane, and Dr. Nick Breitborde. Johnny was a mentor for the University of Arizona Psychology Program (now LifeSTEP) during his undergraduate degree. He is also a certified yoga teacher and has worked with the Tucson Autistic Alliance where he taught yoga to groups of autistic children attending a summer camp, as well as, the IRC where he taught yoga to groups of refugees.
Sara Knight
Sara graduated from the University of Arizona in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences and a minor in Special Education and Rehabilitative Psychology. Previously, she worked in the L4 Lab with Dr. Mary Alt on projects related to specific language impairment and bilingual language learning in school-aged children. Sara has also worked extensively with Dr. LouAnn Gerken in the Infant Language Development Lab, where she focused on research pertaining to language, cognitive, and visual development in infants from 4 months of age to 19 months of age. She has volunteered for Big Brothers Big Sisters as a Big Sister and has also invested time in literacy projects for underprivileged families. In her spare time, Sara enjoys hiking, tricycling, and playing with her dogs. She also enjoys photography, cooking, babysitting, and binge-watching shows on Netflix.
Andrew Fridman
Andrew graduated from theUniversity of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Molecular and Cellular Biology in 2012. He has professional clinical research experience with Dr. Charles Raison as well as Dr. Patricia Haynes as a clinical assessor and research technician here at the UA and also at the Southern Arizona VA. Andrew has also worked in research labs with Dr. Richard Lane and Dr. David Sbarra as a research assistant in his undergraduate career as well as a tutor for the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology.
Sarah Markowski
Sarah joins us as a current University of Arizona undergraduate student majoring in psychology with a minor in music. She has experience as a research assistant for Dr. Jamie Edgin’s Down Syndrome research group as well as Dr. Richard Bootzin’s Sleep Research Laboratory where she served as an assistant to the project coordinator. Sarah has also worked as a research assistant in the University of Arizona’s Social Psychology and Cyberbullying labs. Sarah plans to graduate this December.
Miyla Mcintosh
Miyla graduated from the University of Arizona with a B.S. in Psychology in May 2015. During her undergraduate career, she worked as a research assistant in the Sleep Research Lab under Dr. Richard Bootzin and the Aging and Cognition Lab under Dr. Elizabeth Glisky. She also volunteered with Mentors for Moms, providing support and guidance to teenage parents regarding academic, career and personal goals, and she participated in the Elder Rehab Internship at the Tucson Jewish Community Center under Dr. Sharon Arkin, constructing a physical and cognitive exercise plan for an older adult with dementia. In her free time, Miyla enjoys playing volleyball, rock climbing, and hanging out with her dog, Hot Stuff.
Derek Pisner
Derek attained a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Virginia in 2011 and completed his Post-Baccalaureate in Psychology at the University of California Berkeley in 2013. Previously, Derek worked in the University of California San Francisco’s Life Depression Lab, the Berkeley Sleep and Mood Research Clinic, and as a personal research intern for Madeline Levine, a New York Times bestselling author. He has also worked as a marketing consultant and researcher for the San Francisco Sleep Diagnostics Center, consultant and treasurer for Children’s Humanitarian International (CHI), and a crisis counselor with San Francisco Suicide Prevention.
Prabhjyot Singh, MD
Prabhjyot Singh (Prab) is a medical graduate from India. Previously, Prab worked as a research assistant in Dr. Lee Ryan’s Cognition Neuroimaging Lab, Dr. John Allen’s Psychophysiology Lab and Dr. Charles Raison’s (CNN mental health correspondent) lab at the University of Arizona. After completing medical school Prab worked as a medical officer in India before moving to United States. In the US, he did his clinical/research rotations in psychiatry at several prestigious hospitals - St. Joseph hospital, Chicago, IL; Weiss Memorial hospital, Chicago, IL; Allegheny general hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. In the future, Prab aspires to enter into medical residency in psychiatry while continuing with his research endeavors.
William N. Palmer
Will graduated from the University of Arizona with a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies in 2015. He has worked in the Department of Psychiatry for almost 2 years, dedicating most of his time to Dr. Charles Raison’s research, in which explores the relationship between increased gut flora and physical, emotional and mental well-being. Will’s primary interest is in research related to socio-emotional development and contemplative practice, specifically the developmental effects of mindfulness-based prevention interventions on youth populations across the lifespan, and its influence on well-being, identity development, resiliency, and motivation. Will plans on pursing a doctoral degree in applied developmental psychology, with an emphasis on prevention science. When not in the lab, Will relishes time spent outdoors, at concerts, and with his two furry companions
Melissa Millan
Melissa graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Arizona in 2015. During her undergraduate career, she worked as a research assistant in the Sleep Research lab under Dr. Richard Bootzin where she served as an assistant to the project coordinator. After graduation, she served as Data Manager in the Sleep and Diabetes lab under Dr. Michelle Perfect at BUMC. In her spare time, Melissa enjoys baking, cooking, gardening, and playing with her dog.
