Language Style in SUD Care: Strategies to Reduce Stigma

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss harm reduction principles in healthcare,
  2. Recognize potentially stigmatizing language as a barrier to delivering patient-centric, high-quality substance use disorders (SUD) care.
  3. Adapt a healthcare practice that is progressively free of stigma.
  4. Describe tools and resources available to healthcare professionals that avoids reinforcing the prejudice and discrimination associated with SUD.

The educational objective of the Addiction Medicine Grand Rounds is to provide health professionals with updates on addiction topics with the goals of increasing knowledge, competence, and patient care. The Addiction Medicine Lecture series is held monthly on a Thursday from 12 to 1 p.m.
