Pharmacological Treatment of Alcohol Use Disorder

Learning Objectives:
- Become familiar with the prevalence and impact of alcohol use disorder (AUD)
- Review the symptoms, time course, and treatment of alcohol withdrawal
- Identify the four medications approved for treating AUD in the United States
- Become familiar with the use of unapproved medications for which there is evidence of efficacy in treating AUD and that are used off-label
The educational objective for the Addiction Medicine Grand Rounds is to provide health professionals with updates on addiction topics with the goals of increasing knowledge, competence, and patient care. The Addiction Medicine Lecture series is held monthly on a Thursday from 12 to 1 p.m.
