Learning Objectives:

  1. Be familiarized with the current understanding of the causes of catatonia, and that catatonia is not psychiatric diagnosis as much as a syndrome of symptoms that have a variety of possible causes
  2. Understand the current theories around what is happening neurologically during a catatonic episode of any cause
  3. Be able to use and understand the benefits and drawbacks of a few of the most common measurement tools for catatonia
  4. Identify multiple treatment options for the catatonia itself, as well as understand the primary importance to address the underlying cause
