Eli W. Lane Memorial Master Workshop: "The Impact of Affect and Trauma On Development: Implications for Treatment"

Sat, 11/07/2015 - 8:00am to 4:00pm

Paul C. Holinger, MD, MPH, will be this year's presenter for the Eli Lane Master Workshop on Nov 7, 2015

"The Impact of Affect and Trauma On Development:  Implications for Treatment"

Dr. Paul C. Holinger will focus on the importance of affect as a foundation for understanding how early environmental trauma can disrupt development. The clinical implications of these ideas for psychoanalytic and psychotherapeutic work with children, adolescents, and adults will be explored. He will discuss affect theory particularly from the perspectives of Darwin, Tomkins, Ekman, Stern, and others. These ideas will be integrated with clinical work of Winnicott, Kohut and relationists, as well as classical psychoanalytic concepts.

The morning sessions will explore affect theory and primary affects, early environmental trauma, and adult and adolescent cases. The afternoon sessions will examine affect theory and developmental disruptions in relation to child/adolescent psychoanalytic work and outcome. We will also discuss the implications of affect theory in areas such as physical punishment, early verbalization of affect in parenting, and education.

Registration will begin at 8:30am.
