Compulsiveness: A Professional Tactic and Pitfall

Learning Objectives:

  1. Define compulsivity, discuss adaptive and maladaptive aspects of the trait.
  2. Review the process of becoming a physician in relation to the promotion of compulsiveness.
  3. Present interventions based in self-compassion as one strategy to decrease the burden of compulsiveness.

The educational objective for Psychiatry Grand Rounds is to provide mental health professionals with updates on psychiatric topics with the goals of increasing knowledge, competence, and patient care. Psychiatry Grand Rounds are held on Wednesdays (September-May) from 12 to 1 p.m.
