"Emotional Awareness: New Developments in Theory, Research, and Clinical Applications"

Learning objectives:

  • Understand the functional implications of the distinction between basic affective responses and awareness of those responses
  • Become familiar with the 3-process model of emotional awareness (affect generation, conceptualization, cognitive control) including deficits and defenses in the evaluation of individual patients
  • Be able to explain the role of emotional awareness in the change process across different psychotherapy modalities
  • Learn the basics of emotional awareness assessment and the measurement tools available.

The educational objective for Psychiatry Grand Rounds is to provide mental health professionals with updates on psychiatric topics with the goals of increasing knowledge, competence, and patient care.
