The Quest For Sleep film screening

Sun, 08/21/2022 - 2:00pm to 4:30pm

Dr. Michael Grandner discusses how our brain internalizes sleep disruption triggers and leads to patterns of brain activation; keeping us awake when we want to be asleep. The Quest for Sleep © 2022 Idorsia Pharmaceuticals, Ltd.

Join Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Sleep and Heath Research Program Michael Grandner, PhD, MTR, CBSM, FAASM for a free screening of The Quest for Sleep.

Dr. Grandner is heavily featured in this documentary film that follows real characters whose struggles with sleep threaten to unravel their waking lives. The character of “Sleep” — narrated by award winning actor Octavia Spencer — acts as a poetic and insightful foil to our cast and leads the audience to experts who illuminate the science behind how we sleep and what keeps us awake.

A panel discussion follows with Dr. Grandner and Meeta Singh, MD, senior staff physician at Detroit’s Henry Ford Hospital Sleep Disorders and Research Center and a sleep consultant to NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, Olympic and college athletic teams. Also on the panel will be Kelly Robinson, RN, a care coordinator in Minnesota’s Twin Cities and one of several insomnia sufferers who discuss their relationship to sleep in the documentary.
