Malpractice Issues in Reproductive Psychiatry

Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:
- Accurately describe areas of malpractice risk in reproductive psychiatry commonly encountered in hospital settings including informed consent for reproductive decisions, psychiatric hospitalization of perinatal women, risk assessment, and dual agency.
- Accurately describe areas of malpractice risk in reproductive psychiatry commonly encountered in outpatient psychiatric settings including medical decision-making in the use of psychotropic medication in perinatal women, and issues related to failure to treat and patient abandonment.
- Effectively recognize local policies and available resources to better assist psychiatrists in caring for pregnant and postpartum women.
The educational objective for Psychiatry Grand Rounds is to provide mental health professionals with updates on psychiatric topics with the goals of increasing knowledge, competence, and patient care. Psychiatry Grand Rounds are held on Wednesdays (September-May) from 12 to 1 p.m. Be sure to log into your CME account and complete the evaluation to receive credit.
