Prolonged Grief Disorder from the Lens of Mind and Brain

Learning Objectives:
- Recognize symptoms of prolonged grief disorder, and distinguish it from depression, acute grief and resilience.
- Compare the neurobiology of separation in pair-bonded voles to the neurobiology of grief in humans.
- Explain how grieving is a form of learning, and why pandemic circumstances and cognitive aspects of aging might affect its trajectory.
The educational objective for Psychiatry Grand Rounds is to provide mental health professionals with updates on psychiatric topics with the goals of increasing knowledge, competence, and patient care. Psychiatry Grand Rounds are held on Wednesdays (September-May) from 12 to 1 p.m. Be sure to log into your CME account and complete the evaluation to receive credit.
