Learning Objectives:

  1. Review current national and local statistics regarding opioid-related overdose deaths, highlighting trends and disparities relevant to clinical practice. 
  2. Identify appropriate clinical opportunities and indications for prescribing naloxone (Narcan) to patients at risk of opioid overdose, including specific patient populations and risk factors.
  3. Outline the key phases of a quality improvement (QI) project, including problem identification, intervention development, implementation, and evaluation, as applied to addiction medicine and urgent care settings.
  4. Apply the knowledge of naloxone indications and opioid overdose statistics to develop a strategy for increasing naloxone distribution within a specific clinical setting or community. 

The educational objective for the Addiction Medicine Grand Rounds is to provide health professionals with updates on addiction topics with the goals of increasing knowledge, competence, and patient care. The Addiction Medicine Lecture series is held monthly on a Thursday from 12 to 1 p.m.
