GLP-1 Agonists in Addiction Medicine: A Novel Approach to Treatment of Substance Use Disorders

Learning Objectives:

• Describe mechanism of action of GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) including proposed mechanism for treatment of substance use disorders (SUDs)
• Examine current data supporting the use of GLP-1RAs for the treatment of SUDs (alcohol, nicotine, opioids) and explore directions for future research
• Review current FDA-approved medications for treatment of SUDs
