After earning a B.A. from Pomona College with a major in neuroscience, Crystal received her medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine. Her professional interests include reproductive psychiatry and mentoring students interested in psychiatry. Her personal interests include swimming, hair braiding, travel and history.
