Mexico is only one hour away. You can drive to the AZ/MX border town Nogales for authentic Mexican food, margaritas, and great shopping for hand-made Mexican ceramics, tiles, and art! The closest beach to Tucson is actually in Mexico at Rocky Point/Puerto Penasco. It is about a five hour drive from Tucson and you can enjoy beaches, fresh seafood, and luxurious resorts for affordable prices.
The Phoenix metropolitan area is only a 1.5 to 2-hour drive from Tucson depending on which part of this sprawling city you plan to visit. Phoenix is the fifth largest metropolitan area in the country and features 5-star resorts, Michelin-rated restaurants, amazing parks, and a bevy of galleries and museums.
Other excellent excursions include: Grand Canyon National Park, Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Jerome, Lake Havasu State Park, Bisbee, Tubac, Tombstone, Sedona, and Flagstaff. In addition, within easy driving distance are fantastic cities such as San Diego (six hours), Los Angeles (seven-eight hours), and Las Vegas (six hours)!
