Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education and Professor of Psychiatry, Kathy W. Smith, MD, is a remarkable leader, psychiatrist, and mentor. She graduated from our department’s residency program and went on to complete her child and adolescent fellowship with us in 2006. We were very fortunate to have her join the faculty that same year!
Dr. Smith provides clinical care and supervises medical students, residents, and fellows at Banner – University Medical Center and the Crisis Response Center. She is a member of the Association of Medical Education Scholars and is involved in educational research and faculty development in both undergraduate and graduate medical education. She has specialized training in the assessment and treatment of perinatal mood disorders and in working with transgender and gender nonconforming youth.
Throughout her career, she has won numerous, well-deserved awards for her excellence in pedagogy.
With close to two decades with us, Dr. Smith is a vital part of our department. We are profoundly grateful for her dedication to our learners and patients!
