Preclinical Alzheimer’s Disease Biomarker Risk Profile for Postmenopausal Women: An Exploratory Multimodal Neuroimaging Study

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify sex-specific differences among genetic, medical, and hormonal Alzheimer’s disease risk factors and define the Estrogen Theory.
  2. Review neuroimaging techniques used to detect preclinical stage of Alzheimer’s disease. 
  3. Discuss findings of an exploratory multimodal neuroimaging study aimed to examine sex differences in cognitively normal older adults and identify risk factors associated with the neuroimaging outcomes in domains with observed sex differences.   
  4. Understand clinical implications of research findings and discuss future directions in relation to development of sex-specific strategies for preclinical Alzheimer’s disease modifiable risk factors.

The educational objective for Psychiatry Grand Rounds is to provide mental health professionals with updates on psychiatric topics with the goals of increasing knowledge, competence, and patient care. Psychiatry Grand Rounds are held on Wednesdays (September-May) from 12 to 1 p.m.
