Learning Objectives
- Participants will learn how to apply the DICE approach to the evaluation of behavioral symptoms of dementia.
- Participants will understand the role of non-pharmacologic strategies in management of behavioral symptoms of dementia.
- Participants will identify appropriate pharmacologic strategies to help manage behavioral symptoms when non-pharmacologic strategies fail.
Allan Anderson, MD, MMM, DLFAPA
Dr. Anderson is a board-certified geriatric psychiatrist who works in the field of Alzheimer’s Disease and other related dementias performing evaluation and treatment of patients and their family caregivers. He is a Past President of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP). In 2014 he received the AAGP Clinician of the Year Award. Prior to moving to Tucson, he had an appointment as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
Dr. Anderson left Maryland to take on the exciting new position of Medical Director of the Toole Family Memory Center and the Banner Alzheimer’s Institute in Tucson, Arizona. At this center he leads a dedicated staff of dementia care specialists providing both clinical care to patients and families as well as leading clinical trials and other research in Alzheimer’s disease treatment and prevention. He is an Assistant Professor in Neurology and Psychiatry at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
